Default Do I need a power commander?

Hi guys,

I need to pick your brains with regards to power commander 3 and other similar devices on the market.

I have been offered a 2nd hand Akaprovic exhaust for my 2007 CBR 600rr. Thing is some people say a PC is needed when changing the exhaust and others say its not required unless changing the whole system.

Whats your thoughts on the matter as if I have to go out and spend extra £££ on a PC and having it fitted and set up I might leave the bike standard as I haven't got an endless budget.

Cheers

Smudger

I would say it depends on what you want. If your not going to the track, not sure what benefit it would be to you other than saying you have it. Most of us will never ride the bike to its factory ability. But I as most want to add a few things here & there. So if ya got the money to spend...

A power commander is never, ever *needed* under any circumstances. When manufacturers design aftermarket upgrades, they test them on stock bikes, which means they would never use a power commander.

Don't get a power commander until you've done all your other upgrades, otherwise you're going to be heading to the dyno and creating custom maps every freakin' time you tweak something.

A power commander is necessary to get the most performance possible out of your bike's configuration, but its not like swapping your exhaust is going to cause a performance decrease without one.
