Default another chains and sprockets advice post, please help!

Hello and thanks in advance if you can help me with some advice about chains and sprockets. I searched the boards for about an hour with no luck in my more specific questions but I could have been typing in the wrong things to search for. Anyways, here are the things I want to know. I have a 2004 600RR now with -1/+2 setup. I bought it that way and know nothing more.

1. My gears are starting to look a bit worn. There are 15k miles on the bike and I don't know how long the guy before me ran them so I think its high time for an upgrade. Most people seem to get either Renthal or Vortex sprockets as far as I have seen. Can anyone reccomend a specific brand OR better yet for people that have changed between multiple brands give their opinions or histories about them?

2. As I said before my current setup is -1/+2. I like it way better than my friend's stock 03 600RR, but am curious about different setups. I think I saw some people going with different gearing but I don't wanna go too wild. Is my setup OK for the average guy who doesn't care about stunt riding or do you think there is more to gain for daily driving (a mild mix of city and highway speeds...some back roads if you get the drift) with something else?

3. It seems most people do a 520 conversion for some reason...I think I read somewhere on these forums it was for a slight boost in power or acceleration but I'm not sure. For those of you who have done this conversion, would you reccomend it and what does it give you over a stock 525 setup?

4. Most importantly is the chain -- most people like the DID chains, and I also see alot with the RK chains. If you have changed your chain, would you reccomend a certain brand or are they all pretty competitive in wear and quality?

Lastly, if I do stick with the -1/+2 setup, how many links should I have in my chain? I don't have the figure for the stock number of links in front of me (I am at work right now) but I see most aftermarket 520 chains come with 120 links. If you could tell me how to figure out the number of links I need to drop I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks very much!

My 05 600rr came to me with a -1 +2 set up with alloy sprockets. They are pretty much toast with 7500 miles on the odo. My bike had not had the best of care by its previous owner. These componenents should easily last twice as long with regular lubing, proper tension and alignment. BUT, I'm going to replace them with steel this time. They definitely outlast aluminum.

I was following my wife on my bike last weekend and her car has GPS. My bike read 84 mph when her car showed 68mph.

One of our sponsors, carolina cycle,is running a salethat includes520 chain/sprockets and a speedo healer. I just bought a set of Pazzo levers and stainless lines from them and guess I'll take advantage of this offer too. I can live with the MPH being 20% to high, but this bike should only be showing 6K on the odometer instead 7500. I need a Speedo Healer!

Stock sprocket count was 16/43. -1/+2 gives you 15/45.

not necesarily, quality AL sprockets like AFAM, driven, sprocket specialists will last just as long as steel.
5K on the 520 AFAM aluminum on my 1000RR and the black coating still hasnt worn off yet

I've got vortex, and they are doing just fine[8D]

btw the speedohealer was an incredible pain in the *** to reach the plug ( on the F4i), but that thing works so good!
