Default Lighter wheels makine a difference

I have a 2004 1000RR, and I want lighter wheels. I can not afford carbon fibre, so i am looking at other options.

My questin is this: Does any one know exactly how much the stock wheel rims weigh on my bike, a 2004 cbr? I can not seem to find this info anywhere, and whay options does anyone reccomend?

http://www.1000rr.net/forums/showthr...m+wheel+weight

go with marchechini AL for street, MG for track

there has been some bearing problems with the carzzarria (SP)

check your physics book for a formula containing the variables, money, power, and weight. then re-think the lighter wheels cause you'll never notice a difference in acceleration, power or anywheres else. but you will probably get some decent vibration unless you spend over 5 G's cause no cheap aftermarket rims will balance as well as honda rims.

well he's part correct, and i know this only from reading about lighter rims such as CF ones and the marchesini rims.....it's not that you increase the acceleration as much as handling vastly improves....from what i remember of what i have read, because the rotational mass is much less (and yes even a little weight affects ROTATING mass quite a bit), there is less opposition when leaning the bike meaning that corners can be taken quicker and tighter....essentially, the lighter wheels give more maneuverability to the bike due to the fact that it doesn't have to overcome as much gyroscopic force from the wheels...

if anyone really wants to debate this with me, i will find the info to back it up....i know one article i read was in CycleWorld

Solomotoparts has Made by Galespeed. Never heard of this brand before though.

http://www.solomotoparts.com/product...amp;showfull=Yfor the race spec wheels. The street wheels have a heavier front than stock and a lighter rear.

When you look at the pictures link it has the front at 9.15 and 17.3 for rear. Not really sure how accurate that is though.

oh my god i have never read anything even remotely so far against conventional wisdom ever.
even the marchichini website says that for every ounce of rotating mass you take off it makes the bike behave like it lost like 7 lbs at track speed.

its called centrigual force. the greater the mass the greater the force required to make it change direction. second spin two different size wheels, the lighter wheel will be easier to spin so the same amount of work (physics term meaning amount of energy put into something in a nutshell) will spin the wheel faster. the same principle holds true for a motorcycle wheel

the formula for centriful force is F=mass*speed squared/the radius of the wheel
so to keep it simple
sample 1
mass =10
velocity=10
radius=10
centrifigual force = 100

sample 2
mass=20
velocity=10
radius=10
centrifigual force=200

so as you can see with all else being equal a higher mass wheel will have more centrifugal force than a lighter wheel and be harder to turn

you can also use gyroscopes of different sizes to prove this if your math sucks
