I've been reading posts that say the fork springs in the CBR1000RR are for riders around 150 pounds.

OK so I admit, I'm almost 100 pounds heavier than that. So I throw this question to the experts:

What would be the best fork spring setup for me to switch to?

(Sufficient details/leads/links would be appreciated.)

tell them how much you weigh with gear and they will send you the correct ohlins springs for it

or do like i did and get a set of hyperpro progressive springs

they are pretty much one size fits all plus they come with for oil

the only thing i suggest is to take the forks out and get a spring compressor tool to pull the springs down with
when you reinstall the fork caps

otherwise very easy to do write up

you also have to take suspend the bike off the ground to take the weight off the forks

Awesome guys, I'll look into all these options. I notice a lot of dive in the front end under even mild braking, and with my girl on the back it is even worse...really hard on the arms and wrists.

also make sure your sag is right

the difference between free sag (bikes wheels off the ground ) and rider sag ( fully geared rider on bike)
should be 35mm on the front and 25mm on the back

you are diving because the springs arent set hard enough
then again most people who track this bike that i have read about set their forks to full hard preload and still cant get a good sag setting

 

I set my preload higher at one point, not knowing that the darn bike was made for a 150 lb rider, but I didn't go all the way. I'll crank the preload all the way up for now, until my shop is built, then I'll do the fork spring replacement.

BTW, visited all the links offered up by you guys and learned a lot. The tutorial on how to change the springs was downright awesome.

I have used the RACE TECH springs with GOLD valves. I am 6'4 252. I put in beefier springs along with the valves. That made a huge difference.
