Default Ok, I think my fork springs are bad.

I replaced my fork seals 2 weeks ago. Have riden 4 times since then. But it still nosedives and leaves fork oil high on the fork. My friend thinks the springs are in horrible shape.
I will give 3 fork adjustments to level off the top of the fork tomorrow. Hopefully it does something. Probabley won't though.
How hard is it the change the springs? I did the seals with a buddy, that was easy. How do I remove springs from the uppers?

Springs don't just "go"

What weight fork oil did you put in?

The stock forks are very soft, set up for a midget... If you're a heavy guy they will dive, you might want to look into some RaceTech springs with the proper spring rate for your weight.

Also try going up to 15w fork oil.

I did put in 15w fork oil and I am 210lbs. of muscle. I do ride hard, especially to commute. If I have to replace them, would like a cheap place to order. Any ideas???

You're about 5 pounds lighter than me, you'll do well with stiffer springs...

Stock spring rate is 0.648, being 210 you'll want 0.925.

You can buy them straight from RaceTech for $109

Buy the cartridge emulators while you're at it!

What will the cartride emulaters do? I do like the Racetech idea. Stiffer than Honda's but you can get it the way you want to handle.

The spring rate should always be matched to the riders weight, without it you can't set up static sag, race sag, preload etc. properly.

Cartridge emulators are just a performance upgrade, I can't remember all of the technical details but in essence I think it's just better valving.

How do you remove the old springs and install the new ones once the forks are apart?

I usually just put my old springs in the box that the new ones came in, and put them back together the same way they came apart only using the new springs instead

If you'd like, I will make a video or something tonight showing how to RE/RE a fork.
