Hey Guys,

I just got a 08 CBR1000RR and I had a Jardine RT-5 slip-on exhaust installed. Thats the only mod. I'm assuming I don't need a Power Commander, but the bike has a lopey idle sometimes and doesn't seem to have much low end. Be advised this is a new bike only 27 miles on it far from being broken in, but just what I've noticed since riding. How does this bike sound and perform with the stock exhaust in place?

 

I wouldn't recommend getting a power commander unless you've got a full exhaust, are racing of some sort or doing trackdays regularly. If you meet the above criteria then I think it's a must do. If not, I wouldn't do it. Just my MO. Or if you've got plenty of money to spend on the PC and getting it mapped, have at it. You will see a lot better throttle response, but not that it'll matter too much though.

 

i say go for it. when i got a pcIII installed after I put my aftermarket exhaust on, it woke my 08 1000rr right up. That is of course because I got a custom map for it. If you get the pcIII, get it mapped and you'll be happy. (also a custom map should kick the bike in the a$$ at low rpms to get rid of that bogging feeling)

 

I think thats what I'll have to do install a Power Commander b/c the bike does have that bogging down feeling at low rpm not much snap. This is for a stock bike with slip on so is a custom map still recommended? What about the map they have for the specific pipe for our bike - will that not get rid of the bogging feeling?

 

if you're going to put the money into a power commander, invest in a custom map. the predownloaded ones that you can find on a website just don't cut it. You'll get the most out of a custom map. Also if that bogging feeling is really bothering you, think about doing a 520 sprocket conversion (search sprocket sizes in this forum to get a better idea of what you may want)

well first off .. you do NOT need a PC with a slip on ... you do not need one with a full system ..
the purpose is to optimize efficiency ... but you do not NEED one..

you CAN run a PC with a downloadable map and be VERY happy ... alot of time and money are put in to the downloadable ones...

in fact you CAN take a bike with a slip on .. and a pc and load a FULL system map to it and the bike will repsond to it and be crisper...only thing is you WILL smell a little more fuel/gas fumes, BUT the bike will think it has a full system and run BETTER

there is no reason to spend money on dyno time or custom mapping unless you have specific work done your bike... save themoney for tires and track time.. and down load the same map that someone else has the same bolt ons done already...

 

I just put the Jardine RT5 on mine and it lopes when you first crank it up but it smoothes out after about 10 seconds. I think it performs better in the lower rpms then before with the stock pipe.
