Default 600 Mile service

My bike is getting ready to turn over 600 miles. Will it be ok to get on it full out after I get the service done on it? What all should be done at 600 miles?

They are going to change the oil and filter, check the brakes, clutch, wheels/tires, all the nuts & bolts, and steering head bearings. I'd have the dealerdo the first one, then do all the minor stuff yourself, after that.

should i ever have to worry about adjusting the valves. the salesmen said they sometimes did it on the older ones. If it doesnt need it I dont want them trying to get me for some money.

Whats the 8K service? When i bought my bike it came with 3 dealer services, the next one (what I hear refered to as "the big one") is at 8K.

Valves should be fine until 12k or so
honestly dealerships get a good bit of money calling it a "XXX mile Service" vs just calling it an oil change and looking over the bike

oil changes are simple, steering head bearings shouldn't be an issue at 600 miles, otherwise they are going to feel your brake lever pressure and look at the fluid (it should still be very clear) and check some bolts (any idiot can feel a bunch of bolts on the bike to make sure they aren't loose)

some dealerships will swear valves should be checked at the first service just in case but modern bikes won't need to be adjusted anywhere near that soon so I wouldn't worry about it

In terms of "getting full on it" after the 600mile tune-up / check-up / glorified oil change - I say go for it. I never shifted above 6-7k when in the first 600 miles, then once I got her back I now rarely shift below 7k rpm. TONS more fun in the upper rpm range - I just went over 1500 miles and still no problems whatsoever.

How often does everybody change their oil? I think the book says the next checkup is at like 4k miles but that seems too long to me to go w/out changing the oil...

The manual also says to check and lube the chain every 500 miles or less, just fyi.
