Default Fuel petrol tap leak

Hi Just went back to my bike for the summer , turned on the fuel tap and found that fuel started leaking between the main body of the tap and the riveted plate just behind the plastic handle (12) . so as this a sealed unit I thought I'd replace it with the spare that I have in a spare tank, but when I took it out I found it full of crud and rust .

So question is are there, to anybodies knowledge any seals that I should know about before I try cleaning it? I'm going to use combination of vinegar and carb cleaner .

It looks like part 1 in this diagram

Thanks for any help in advance

You are going to need to seal the tank as well

everything is incl in the part 1 assembly - but you can get it much much cheaper here
even if shipped to the UK

Also if you do seal the tank (and you should by the way !) you'll have to pull the fuel
sender to do that ......... which means you should replace the 39.5 x 5 o-ring (part #21)
in the link I gave you above . (part # 42 in your UK Motoparts link)
($2 here for that - over 4 squids ($8) in the UK)

I'd order from here - huge savings - but maybe VAT will mess with that !

Thumbs up

Thanks Sprock . What a saving . Knocked 2/3 off the price though still to add postage and Vat .

But Sorry I wasn't very clear. The replacement tap has the Crud in it which I'm going to clean out before fitting . The original is clean but has developed a leak when turned on, between the body and the plate that riveted in place. I was just wondering if there were any seals within it as I don't want to destroy them with cleaner.

I reckon washing it out with vinegar and Carb cleaner should clean it out.
Thanks any way . Hopefully my clean will get me on the road again quickly while I order a replacement.

Vinegar maybe - carb cleaner - okay but dont let sit too long - flush with gas

You can drill the rivets - disassemble - and there's a kit to renew - just bolts and
lock nuts to put back together
