Balancer shaft overhaul
Winter has yet to bite in Blighty, but its damp, and too slippery to ride, so its take the bike apart time.
This time its the balancer shaft area.
One and a half hour later I was giggling the shaft from below to extracate it from its position.
On the bench reveals the thrust washers, but more interestingly, the 21 tooth sprocket which slides on to the main balancer shaft.
Cushioned between the shaft and the sprocket the cushion rubbers can be found.
The rubbers on this bike are well andtruely hardened, and resemble black chewing gum sweets with the hardened shells, because all the elasticity has gone.
The other thing worth noting is the amount of slack, or float when rotating the sprocket against the shaft which is why I couldnt any take up any adjustment.
So with parts on order, I will be interested as to what difference the new rubbers make.
The sprocket and roller bearing all look to be in fine fettle.
