Does the engine balancer/chain rattle at all at idle and low rpm/low or little load conditions if it has not been checked in a long time? My cam chain and tensioner are new but there is still noise. Alternator chain checked last year and tensioner was ok.

 

You talking about the oil pump primary drive chain ? - they do rattle as the miles
pile on - not as much if you run 20 weight oil tho.....driven by chain from Crank.


The balancer is spline / cog driven off the crank also

 

You are correct, oil pump chain...I was reading other threads and had 'balancers on the mind' lol!

 

no worries and I would not worry much about the oil pump chain other than it's
irritating

 

Only time the balancer will make a noise if it's too tight - makes a sort of groan/squeak noise.
Oil pump drive chain may rattle as said above, camchain rattles always (unless you fit HenryM's amazing modification)

Sometimes it's something as simple as your chain tapping on the swingarm if the rubber boot protector is worn (and the chain's a bit slack)
