Default Buying a cbr1000f

There is a bike locally for sale that comes with 2 helmets for $2900. The bike is a 96 model with 12500miles. It has a few scuffs but all in all a solid bike. What problems should I look for on a bike like this? It looks like it was laid over at one time but at a really slow speed. It barely messed up the covers on the engine. I have riding experience on a 84 cb 750. I know this bike has alot more power, but I believe I can handle it fine. The only things I noticed that I needed to buy were a rear tire. Does this sound like a good price? Thanks!

First of all, keep this in mind. When buying a bike with helmets included, I wouldn't even mess with the old helmets. First of all if they were dropped it messes with the fibre strenght in the helmet and weakens it, and besides helmets are only good for 5 yrs. So if they bought the helmets in 96, they were ready to replace in 2001.

12,500 miles, good grief!!! How in the heck!!!???!!!???? Considering I put 7k on my bike in 5 months, heck yeah this is a great deal. I would be all over it. I'd be looking closely at the chain and sprockets, cracked covers since it was dropped, listen to her run real good, and maybe just for GP take her to the dealer and let them do a "diagnostic" to see if there is anything that they could find wrong with it. A easy check is to take the dipstick out and rub the oil on a clean white towel and see if the oil looks clear or gritty to see if he has had the same oil in it for 10k miles ya know? That is NOT good for the engine! Just make sure your not buying an abused bike, if all that looks good what the HECK are u waiting for??? Buy it, buy it now!!! Hehehehhe... Welcome to the CBR1000F Club... Read the thread in here about tires, it may help you make a decision on what tire to buy as well. Post some pictures, and let's go riding!!

Keep The rubber on the ground. I'm outta here.

They all rattle when started from cold, as long as it quieten's down when warm theres nothing to worry about. Check the condition of the battery, is there enough electrolyte in there, if its dry its a sign the regulator/rectifier is frying the battery. This isnt difficult to replace but its a good bargaining tool. As said already it sounds like a good deal but i'd get the frame, forks etc.. checked if its been dropped. Change the oil/filter, air filter asap. Oh yeah don't put someone elses sweaty helmet on your head.... Great bikes buy and enjoy.
