Default died on me while riding, battery or alternator?

Yesterday I was riding and while I was riding my battery died, now my first thought was alternator because I was thinking it wasnt charging the battery like it was supposed to. This is my stock 2001 original battery could it be to the point that it no longer can hold a charge? Also I dont know if this matters but I was told if you put a battery on a concrete floor that it will ruin them, my battery was on a concrete floor for a day/night so like 24 hours is it possible this ruined it, or is this not true and doesnt matter?

the concrete floor thing is just a myth, i still have my stock battery from 01 and it works fine, you might be able to take the battery out and take it to an automotive store and have them check it. that would be the easiest and cheapest way to find out which it is if they do motorcycle batteries

if it died on you while riding, i would think it's your alt. in a car, the alt is what maintains the current. if ur alt is dead, then ur bike is just taking juice from the battery, which eventually runs out.

to be super sure, bring ur battery to autozone and have them charge it. they will tell u if the battery can hold a charge or not. Mine's an 02 and it has a new battery already.

i heard motorcycle batteries don't last as long as car battery...if it's already 8years old it's probably safe to bet that it's done. However, the only thing is that urs died while riding. My guess is you were able to bump start it to get it home?

Go to cyclegear if you have one in the area rather than autozone. Cyclegear knows more about motorcycle batts than autozone guys.
