Ok, so this is kind of an unmanly thing to ask, but this is a big factor in whether or not I get a bike or not. My bro and I want to get a bike this winter and start riding next Spring, but one thing that concerns me is that I am acne prone. I'm currently on medication to keep it in somewhat control, but I know that I would probably have an outbreak if I were wearing those full helmets that rub right up against your cheeks and stuff. I know this since I started to getting major pimples during high school football. This is a major concern for me since some of you can relate to how it can really be a depressing thing. I really would love to get a bike, but I DEFINITELY DON'T want to have an outbreak again. Basically, what I'm looking for is whether or not there are helmets that aren't as abusive to the skin as others. Any info or experience with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

One more thing, I know about those skull caps and helmets that have a clear front mask. I want to look somewhat representable too. I heard about the modular helmets but don't know if they help that much or not.

Many different helmet companies make different inserts for their helmets. You can get helmet insides that are soft and not abrasive to your skin. Check out the Scorpionusa.com website and look at their inserts. It's your choice. I say ride it out and treat your face before and after you ride because you will sweat either way.

 

To be honest with you my helmet doesn't move around much unless I move it with my hands or something. Its not like football where its constantly getting jarred around. I'm no helmet specialist, but if you helmet moves around too much, its not the right size either. Just something to consider.

I try not to think about what other people think, but this is mostly about what I think. I know that I am happier when my face is clear. In a perfect world, none of this would matter, but it does for me.

I was also thinking, would wearing something like a Coolmax headwrap help out? Something for the entire head with material like Underarmour. Anything out there like that?

 

Underarmour does make a skull cap, but I thought you knew that from your previous post. My bad. Only thing is that it does have an elastic piece that'll go right around your dome (directly over your forehead), which may not be as resistant to chaffing as you'd like.
