Default Is your second gear SENSITIVE like mine?

When I shift to second gear, I have to be carefull not to grind the gears and my bike is only 6 months old (4300 miles). WHAT GIVES?

This happens more so when the RPM's are high. But isn't this a high-revving performance bike???

What do you mean you have to be careful? Are you not pulling the clutch all the way in before you start the shift? And the shift from 1st to 2nd should be quick and firm, shift right through neutral. Then release the clutch. Poor shifting techniques will exacerbate grinding your gears at higher RPM's. So, check your shifting timing.

Unlike my truck, I don't think I've ever ground the gears on my bike.

I agree with Lifties.

Try shifting FASTER, not quite a powershift but not casual. Are your revs dropping alot between that long throw through neutral? If I shift casually I hear a clunks, clicks, and grinds too.

OKay,

I think you're right, I am shifting casually from 1st to 2nd and maybe letting RPM's drop. I'll try a faster more firm shifts from 1st to 2nd. [sm=gears.gif]

the throw from first to second on hondas is super long. just shift as quickily as possible while being smooth with the throttle and clutch and don't let the revs drop much
