Default Someone help

I have a 1992 cbr 600 f2. Bike didn’t run when I got it, so I cleaned the carbs and got a battery and got it running. I synced the carbs and reset all the air/fuel mixture screws to the 2 1/8 spec according to my book. My current problem is it is sorta stumbling/ backfiring and popping in the midrange around 5000-7000 rpm then clears up as I climb in rpm. It is now hard to start after doing these things. It will only start at wide open throttle or choke. I get a faint smell of gas when it’s running/idling. I tried researching my problems with not much luck. If anyone has some insight I would greatly appreciate it

it sounds like the carbs still need work.
Dis you totally disassemble them and soak the bodies in cleaner? You have to use compressed air and micro files to clean out every little port.
