Second gear on a 2000 F4? Hey Turnin20s, figured it out!
I am having no luck at all on my 2nd gear wheelies. A guy in front of me today pulled one up at 65, about 10mph too fast for me because I have to be in 1st to get it up. Even @ 8,000 rpm in second, it will not clutch up. Am I waisting my time trying on this bike or am I doing something wrong?

RE: Second gear on a 2000 F4i?
if your gearing is stock... go about 55 to clutch it up. but u really gotta whip the throttle, and maybe even lean back some
im still practicing 2nd... its a bitch
ive noticed that if i only use my index finger, i snap the clutch alot faster, but for some reason i just feel iffy doin it cause i usually grip the bar with only my index finger and use the other 3 on the clutch , i feel *** backwards doin it... but every time i use my pointer finger it comes right up
so maybe u have the same problem i do... just try to snap the clutch a lil quicker
and be careful... the first few times i got it up in 2nd i got a lil too excited and gave it more and more thottle trying to hold it longer and longer, 2nd gear is easier to control then 1st but the throttle responses are very different and you are traveling much faster
a goofy landing in 1st becomes a tank slapper in 2nd, u know just like i do that landing hard in 1st at 60+ isnt pretty, ive already scared myself landing in 2nd at 90 ... so just giving u the "brace ur self" warning

RE: Second gear on a 2000 F4i?
if you are trying these seated i have noticed seat position has alot to do with it. if you scoot your butt back as far as you can comfortably, also try bouncing the front end a little by jerking your weight forward on the grips then jerk up as you clutch it. this should help, changing gearing helps more than anything like mentioned above. im not sure how the seat feels on the F4I but i scoot all the way back until my ars is touching my solo seat cowling. then clutch her up. keep practicing and stay away from the fuz... hefty fine and tow where im at.

never said its not easier. just pointing out that if you can't do a wheelie with stock gearing its probably b/c you're not doing something right. you can do anything on stock gearing it just takes a little bit more practice.
i personally think it makes it harder to learn wheelies if you start out geared. much more twitchy than stock gearing. just my personal opinion.
back on topic: go practice more, give it more gas. 2nd is a lot smoother than first so you need more to get the wheel up. try it standing up.
