Default Help CBR 600RR Wheelie

Ahah, I'm fairly new to wheelie's on my bike, but pretty dedicated to learning them. I usually fire the throttle up, let the clutch go and enjoy the ride while the wheel comes atleast a foot or twooff the ground. I think I'm rev'ing it up to 7-8 RPM'S, possibly higher, but I'm not sure. All of this is in first as I'm too scared to try to do it in second. My question is, shouldn't it come up higher than a foot or two if I'm in first letting the clutch go at around 7-8-9 RPM'S? I'm not sure how high it's coming up because I have no one to tell me, but it feels like 1-2 feet, ahaha. Not high at all.. Any recommendations? Am I doing it wrong? ahah. Thanks!

What do you mean by letting the clutch go?

It should be a quick slip, just pulled in barely enough to disengage the clutch and let the rpms rise, then release quickly, but dont just let it snap out. So you may be doing that wrong, but most people learing are doing 2 things, leaning forward and you dont realize it, and not giving enough gas. Work on number 1 first, so when you get that right your not working on 2 and loop it.

scared to try it in 2nd?? i think 1st gear is much easier to loop than 2nd. really just work on gettin up a little more each time you feel comfortable. What do you mean by letting go the clutch? 1st gear should take much to get up. 2nd gear takes alot higher rev to get up and it doesnt have that torquey feeling like first so i think they are much easier to ride.

Hey guys! Thanks for the replies!!

ORIGINAL: gotobatterWhat do you mean by letting the clutch go?
What I mean by that is that I'm pulling the clutch in, rev'ing the engine and releasing the clutch quickly. I might've worded not so good. I apologize.

Do you mean deaccelerating as I release the clutch? If that's what you mean, that's probably what I'm doing. Usually I don't think about it when I'm popping it up, but that's what I think I'm doing aswell. I'll have to better observ next time.

What do you mean quick slip? sorry for my stupidity, kinda not used to the motorcycle language, aha. You say just pull in barely enough to disengage the clutch and let the RPM'S rise? So what you're saying is that I need to barely pull the clutch in so it disengages the clutch, then rise the RPM'S, then let go the clutch go? Don't pull the clutch in all the way? When you say most people do 1 wrong and I need to work on that, do you mean leaning foward or the clutch thing? Ahah, sorry. Yea, I pull the clutch in all the way when I do it. Should I just barely pull it in? ahah. More advice the better!

haha, yea I'm scared to try it in second. Something about the bike moving and trying to pop a wheelie scares me. I prefer the bike to be stopped ahah!! Now when you guys say loop, what do you mean? As far as letting go of the clutch, I posted it above on what I mean, ahah. =P... 1st gear should take much to get up? Like, what do you mean? Yea, I'm probably going to try and get it up in 2nd once I get the feel of it because from what I hear it's alot more comfortable and easy.

decelerating when realeasing the clutch means your not stayin on the throttle. you still need to be on the throttle when she starts coming up. quick slip meaning your are going to pull in the clutch just enough to disengage... i just use one finger.. kick rev then flicking the clutch out.. this whole matter should be done in just a fraction of a second.. alot of it is about timing. i think doing a wheelie from a dead stop is alot more difficult then doing it when you are rolling. what we mean by looping it is pretty much getting put on your back.. 1st gear can suprise you sometimes and before you know it it pops up like a bat out of hell and by the time you react you are on your back.. just keep practicing.. you will get it

You want to be accelerating, that will make it easier. This is the trick i used on a few friends to help them learn. Go get on a back road somewhere going about 45 mph, be in 6th gear. Now accelerate hard, then take one finger on the clutch and flick it in till it disengages and the rpms jump. When they jump 2-3k let back out quickly all while holding the throttle open. Thats it, thats how quick it should be. Practice that a few times, then go back to first or 2nd gear and try it. Now obviously in 1st or 2nd you dont want the throttle pinned, but its just an exercise on how to slip the clutch. If you do it correctly here is what it should sound like. Just a couple of quick vid clips of clutching (2nd and 3rd gear), dont worry about watching, just listen to how it sounds.
