Default 98 F3 Triple Clamp Swap Question

Hello all, I'm a bit new, and maybe it's been asked before, but what I'm pondering is this:

I have a 98 F3, and I want to change to bars instead of my good-ole' Woodcraft clipons. I was doing some lookin', and saw that the cb600f (aka Honda 599 in the US, circa 04) has the same fork diameter. The question is, is it possible to change top triples between the two, without changing the stem? Has anyone attempted this? I don't mind turning a wrench to find out, but I prefer not to shell out the cash to buy a top clamp if it's going to be a paperweight, and money would be better spent in a simple set of risers, and drilling a couple holes. Thoughts?

I have a '93 F2 and I drilled holes on the triple top with a drill press on my Gsxr front fork swap. Ktm fat bar risers off ebay $10, Renthal Fat bar $65 off ebay and $10 bucks for new grips. You might find the same problem with your clutch cable length aa I did, but Barrett Engineering can help you out. Measure the length you need added and they can make you to your specs a new cable for around $40.
My "dirty bars" are better quality than the Spiegler kits. Those are complete garbage!

i tried looking for you. all i found is that someone asked if it was possible to put an f3 triple onto a hornet so they could use clip-ons. one guy said it should work. if he's right, that'd mean that you could put a hornet triple on your f3. but i have no idea if it's possible. i can't imagine that it'd cost too terribly much to buy one and try it out. if it doesn't work, you could always re-sell it.

The All ***** Racing website lists the bearings as the same for the 2004 cb599 and the 98 F3. If the fork tube diameters are thought to be close then the only worry is the fork spacing (and silly stuff like ignition cylinder, speedo, blah blah blah/.... ) I am interested in this swap too because i trust a solid piece of metal over the drilled and tapped risers the previous owner did on my bike. Did you happen to find out any more info on this? Would a factory service manual list fork spacing? And has anyone swapped a wheel from a cbr600f3 to a cb599 or vise versa (i understant shims come into play here but just curious)

The bearings are for the stem/neck of the frame... that wouldn't answer whether to the top tree swaps. There are 3 important holes in the top tree. The stem hole and the two fork holes. The two top trees would have to match with respect to the 3 holes.

The only real way to figure it out would be to actually try it, unfortunately.
