If Honda let this farce continue, i can see it going the way of the Toyota brake problems and the fall in confidence in the brand after.

A funny stab at Honda! I have an '08, and it has 7k miles on it, I have only had to put in 1/3rd of a quart. It had its break-in change, and one other. Some people have reported no issues, and some report bad consumption. Did Honda fix its later 08 bikes or what? I bought mine in july of 08.

I purchased an 08 CBR1000RR in Nov. of 09 and just recently discovered I had an issue.
I did not have any symptoms until it stopped running 11,000 miles later. I thought I had avoided getting an oil burner but was wrong. When the heads were removed it was found from the measurements that the pistons and cylinders were the 2007 spec. This caused sludge to accumulate over time and stop up my valves.
I checked the oil regularly but did not notice a large amount of oil consumption.
The only mods I have done are a slip on exhaust
The dealer found the issue and reported it to Honda. A Honda district rep inspected it and said since it was out of warranty it is my problem.
I have the measurements of the cylinder walls and pistons from the dealer. Basically Honda used 2007 spec cylinders and pistons in my 2008 motor. The bottom end and head is 2008 spec.
The piston was measured at 74.9650 mm and the cylinders were 75.000 mm.
The 2008 spec for the piston is 75.965-75.985 and cylinder is 76.000-76.015.
I'm pretty pissed about it and am going to buy a motor to slap in it and sell this ****.
So if anybody is selling a running motor for cheap, I'm definitely interested.
The dealer quoted me $5,350.19 to replace the entire top end. The valves, pistons, and cylinders are all damaged.
Not buying another Honda and will warn anyone about buying any vehicles from them after this fiasco.
