Well I had my second crash today on my way home from work in Mexico. It took me a little over 20 years of riding to have the first one (11/2/06) and now 4 months later I have the second. I was on my way home and the semi traffic had the road backed up. (The semi traffic heading north across the border tends to get pretty heavy towards the end of the month.) I decided to do a little lane splitting and make my way towards the border. As soon as I went past the first car the second car, a small delivery truck, decided to make a sharp turn to the right to get in front of another semi. Needless to say with the semi on my right I had nowhere to go except into the side of the delivery truck. What really sucks is I slammed into the truck on the left side and then the bike slammed into the street on the right side. Now I have both sides scrapped up. Luckily I was wearing all of my gear and only suffered a banged up knee which has proceeded to swell up quite a bit since the accident happened this afternoon. I have no idea what the guy in the truck was saying, my Spanish is horrible, but I think we both decided to share the blame and went on our way. The bike only suffered a few minor scratches to the plastic and a few scrapes on the cases. The strange thing is I was trying out a new tank mounted camera and I got the whole incident on tape. I am not sure how to post the video so I captured a few images leading up the crash.

Yikes Well you are still alive +1 but that can happen when lane splitting between traffic like that! How fast were you going? that coulda been bad...
I use to take chances every now and then like that but to many people i know got hurt and to many stories like these change my mind..

damn glad to hear that you are ok ! judging from the pixs i would think that the driver of the truck was at fault . did he even try to signal or did he just come on over fast ? anyways glad things went as well as they did

 

Def post it on youtube... you can use that vid for you're insurance, just make sure to cut out the lane splitting =P.

Glad to see your ok. Lane splitting is legal in a lot of places, but unfortunately most non riders dont know that and definately don't think to watch out for it.

 

If you exchanged information with the other driver just go to his house and kill'em. **** did I say that out loud! I mean you should go there to see if their o.k.At least you can still come on here and post, you're not laid up in a hospital.
If you don't mind I will try to make this a positive expierenceto all newbies and others that aren't that new that thinkcrashing CAN'T happen to them...................................

"Lane Sharing" is legal in many states, but not lane splitting.

 

i wonder why its only legal here in cali but not in other states ? does anyone know ?
