Ilive about an hour and a half from the dragon, and have never had any run ins with the law. I tend to try to ride a fairly constant speed, and just not slow down much for the turns.I brake in and power out, but I don't tend to run through as many gears asI can before the next turn. There are many turns where you really don't want to be going over about 25 mph when you get into it. If you go out, hit some turns hard, and stay in your lane, the cops tend to leave you alone. If you are going 10/10ths through all the turns, late braking, and trying to get all of the speed you can eek out on the sraights (the "straights" is used very loosely in this case), you are probably going to have a bad time if you run into the law.

Oh, the Skyway and the Blue ridge parkway are great as well. Not as intense, but a fun ride.

I was just in Knoxville for the Honda Hoot and rode the Skyway and the Dragon several times. COPS were everywhere, granted it was a motorcycle event. They were writing tickets for 5mph over the limit. Speed limit in the Dragon is 30mph. LEO is ruining it down there, but it was still awesome.

How are they ruining it by enforcing the law? Ever think that the law breakers are the ones really ruining it?

And you need to go on a not so busy day too. This year the LEO have been nice n respectful to riders as long as the riders were the same. And of course if you were bending the law to much they will write you up. But then again, thats their jobs.

I understand that they are doing their job and thats fine, but writing a ticket for going a couple Mph's over the speed limit is a bit much. And after all, the dragon does bring quite a bit of tourist dollars into TN and NC. If your riding stupid you deserve a ticket, but they were going overboard. I admit, i did ride it on a bad week with the Hoot and all. Personally i thought the Cherohala Skyway was more fun than the dragon because the twisties were long and sweeping. The dragon has some pretty intense switchbacks...

I love the tight technical turns on the dragon. I aint much into speed so long sweepers dont do much fer me. But I've not rode the skyway 'yet' will in a couple of weeks during our rally.

it usually depends on how everyone is riding on how strict they are this year. Some hooligans may went thru right b4 you got there n ruffled their feathers up lol.

The hubby and I were just down to Knoxville also for the Hoot and rodethe Dragon for the first time. Cool road. If I lived close to the dragon I would be riding it often plus the skyway. Oh BTW the Skyway was built for the ST1300. One of the nicest rides I have had in a long time.

I'm actually thinking of retiring down that way. IL is just to freaking flat and the Roads are in aweful condition!

I am on the black the hubby is on silver
