Epic Journey. a.k.a. Epic Suffering.
Well, this weekend I'm on the way to pick up my 2007 CBR 1000rr. I purchased the bike from a dealership in Phoenix, AZ, and I live in Brownwood, TX. So, I'm going to fly there and ride it back. 998 miles. I have 48 hourstotal time to make it back. The bike is brand spankin' new, so I'll also be breaking it in on this trip.
I need advise! Huge road trip on that bike is not my idea of fun, but its my only option. I just spent every penny I have on the bike itself. I would love any long distance riding tips or tricks, as well as advise on riding a new motorcycle such a distance.
I havea Gregory Ultra-lite hiking pack or an independant skateboarding backback to haul gear. The gear must go through airport security. Helmet and jacketincluded.
Anyone with advise or ideas to reduce the torture of such a journey are welcome to chime in.

I bought one of these. I can't tell if it's CB2 or CB4 in the picture but it helps out in your wrist for sure on long trips.

wow thats a long trip gooood luck...i would just say that you should take lots of breaks, enough so that you dont get sore cause once you do get sore its not goin away haha. never done it b4 cause i have never done such a long trip but i always thought that the use of a weightlifting belt or some kind of similar back brace would help to protect your back from pain. The only think that i would wonder is that i always thought that there was a 600mi service that was supposed to be done after the first stage of break in but i suppose that it would be ok to do it after u get back... i would just check that with the dealer your buying at to make sure

Well, the trip was a resounding success. I flew to Phoenix, picked up the bike, and rode it back. It now has 1002 miles on it! The dealer said it shouldn't be a problem to do the 600 mile check up after 1000 miles, but to be sure to do it.
Anyway, I fueled up every 130-150 miles. Every time I fueled up the bike, I stopped at a truck stop, I took of my jacket, helmet, gloves, backpack, sat in a booth, and drank a 32 ouncer of gatorade, every other stop a small can of red bull, and took 2 advil every 6 hours. I relaxed on my stops, stretched my legs walked around a bit, etc. The journey wasn't anywhere near as difficult as I thought it would be. The bike performed magnificently, and I am no worse for wear.. well, my butt is a little sore, lol.
