Ok, it's looking better and better. Only 1000 miles to get there, but I'm going to be staying in Robbinsville. The place in Telico is sold out for the weekend

Thumbs up

Malbojah - Sprock is coming down from Maine as well. Hopefully not in a trailer either.hehe!
Current plan is to meet him in DC or Front Royal,VA on 10/2. Perhaps meet up with him and ride down together? (see my post #47) We have not made reservations anywhere yet but our Dragon days will not be on the week end.
Are you interested in the Birmingham leg as well? Let's talk it up and get the hotel stuff covered before the rooms are gone.

I'm definitely interested in hitting up Barber Museum again (haven't been there in 4-5 years). Trying to think out loud... leave on 10/1... get to DC area late night 10/1, meet Skyline 10/2...get home sometime around the 14th...as long I as I can get my tires changed @ deals gap I should be good.

If you check the Deals Gap / Tail of the Dragon web sites they have local bike shops listed. Making arrangements with one of them for tires should not be an issue.
Spock has been on vacation this week but shoot him a PM about the two of you meeting up on the way to Front Royal,VA. Also the return from Barber. I can put people up in Cincy for the night of the 10th. I don't know how long he will plan to stay out, but the 14th sounds a bit long.
Indy and I will pair up in Cincinnati and head east from there.
It'll be great to park a whole line of 1000F's in front of the Barber Museum. Another Great Photo Op.

Wish I could link up the map I've made, but it google won't let me link up the map properly

If we get to far behind or tired of twisties we can make time by jumping over to I 64/81. It runs parallel to that route.

Thinking out load again...all this is without stops or traffic

3 hours for Skyline

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...,0.891953&z=11

3 hours to Roanoke

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...,0.222988&z=13

No to be a negative nancy, but the Roanoke to Ashville leg is 8 hours

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...93,3.56781&z=9

Ashville to Cherokee is a reasonable 2.5 hours

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...,1.783905&z=10

The alternatives that I can think of (using Roanoke as a resting spot for the fist night) is to take the BRP as far south as I77, then south to I40, then west to Robbinsville (time consuming and long)

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...,1.783905&z=10

Or take I81 from Roanoke right to Robbinsville (just as long, but 2 hours fewer)

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...75,7.13562&z=8

I'll be doing the weekend too...keep me in the loop re: where you guys are staying etc. Bummer that the Hunt's place is sold out. There are several good bike-oriented places to stay in the area though, so don't waste your money on some generic hotel.

Malbojah, thanks, Yeah, that's some good alternatives if we need them. I'd like to hear a consensus on route choice. My feeling are we ran the Dragon in the spring, I'd like to do it again. If I have to choose how to devide the time it should be roads not traveled yet. By all accounts the Skyline and Blueridge are great roads. I'm ok with just 1 to 1 1/2 days for the Dragon and Skyway. Chime in with your thoughts guys.
