I have been riding my 99 cbr600f4 for two seasons now, last year I really didn't put many miles on it and stuck with secondary roads and such. This year I am going a lot further and finding myself on the highways more and more. I believe my bike was geared for quick acceleration, seems to be down 1 in the front up 3 in the back. This is great on slower speed roads, however, on highways the bike seems to be revving way to high for sustained riding. When I am on the highway say 70-75 mph, according to my gps, I am around 7k rpm. Is this ok to ride at for a sustained period of time or should I bring the gearing back more towards stock?

 

I'm not really sure what the best answer here is...but I would guess that you would be losing some fuel economy with gearing like that. Unless you don't have a speedohealer type device, in which case you aren't actually traveling @ 70-75mph.

 

You're avatar says "no worries", so what are you worried about?

It will be fine, but I'm sure your gas mileage sucks. If it were me, I'd consider going back to stock gearing if I was on the highway a lot. Or maybe just +2 on the rear or something.

 

thanks guys I think im gonna just bring the front back to stock leave the rear up like you said and that was gps speed not speedo figured it would be a mess but they must have done something because the guage is almost 100% on still lol

 

I have the -1, +2 combo and my bike is also at about 7300rpm at about 70mph. I was told that its not bad and that its a perfect range for rpm.

The only thing is the fuel is burning up a little more but then again my bike is to have fun while riding, not try to save up on gas, or I would've gotten a prius.

 

Yeah I was not concerned about fuel economy just was worried about prolonged steady rpms that high but if it is ok then I will leave it because the acceleration kicks azz!
