I am in a debate of which Shift jacket i want though.
I am thinking about this jacket

kickers
Shift Kicker Street Shoes - White Print - $89.99 closeout special! In stock NOW! :: MSRP: $129.99

Both jackets looks good and seem to offer some good protection. Just make sure you know your size so you won't have to worry about returns. If you are in and ride primarily in a warm climate, be mindful of how much perforation you will want and need.
For the riding shoes, I try to stay away from shoes that have exposed laces (even though those laces can be tucked/tied behind the strap). I just don't take any changes with that. I have a pair of AGV Sport riding boots that have laces, but the laces are behind the front closure part of the boots and keeps the laces hidden (so the laces wont have a change to become untied).

Oh yeah, avoid the rain. If you think the jacket is heavy now, wait till it gains 5 lbs worth of rain water
