RE: Rain Gear
You most certainly can mate .. the proper way? hmmm
I am always getting caught in the bloody rain and I only use an all weather nylon with armor built in .. I find that its fine ...
Spose it depends on what your jacket is like? .. you can get any number of rain proof over jackets ..light and not too cumbersome to go straight over your mesh one , but as I said , I prefer just the rain proof all weather armored jacket by its self..
My rain pants are nylons and armored too, in the knees and hips .. I just wear them by them selves when hitting the road when its wet...
Gear is a personal choice mate ..
Go any big riding gear store and tell them what you have and what you want ... I am sure they will advise you correctly

RE: Rain Gear
I'd agree with CBR Classic (G'Day Steve) EXCEPT we generally don't ride much in the rain from the start, sort of getting caught in a downpour is more like it.....
I wear a Crane jacket and Akito pants, over my leathers - so minimal padding in them.
Buy your raingear big enough so that you can pull it over your main protective gear at the roadside, so zips in the legs are a must, and double protection on the main zip, or it'll leak - nothing worse than cold water trickling down into your crutch area - UGH ![X(]
Biggest problem on my bike is finding a place to store the rain gear.......[X(]

RE: Rain Gear
I have Blauer Gore Tex rain gear. What's nice is that the jacket is reversible. One side is black, and the other is High vis yellow with 3M reflective striping. So if the weather is really bad, I turn it inside out so people can see me a little better. Tried it on with my gear so I knew that it would fit over it. Kind of pricey, ($300) but I hate riding when I'm cold and wet. The tail section in my bike is pretty roomy, so I put the gear in one of those space saver travel bags, compressed it down and shoved it in there.
In a pinch a trash bag with three holes cut in it will work, but it's a parachute at highway speeds unless you tape it or tie it.

RE: Rain Gear
Joe Rocket ballistic 5.0 is some of the best gear for all round use. The jacket has a zip out liner, body armor, and is waterproof. The pants are lined and waterproof. I would have frozen to death on my last ride backfrom Saskatchewan River Crossing if not for this gear. Great weather (for fall) on the ride there... Rain and sleet on the way back, snow accumulating in the ditches. The ballistic gloves have a rubber blade on the thumb for clearing the visor.
