I've got 2 textile jackets (Alpinestars and PowerTrip) and I like them better than the leather jacket I started with. IMO I think the textile breathes a little better than leather and is just as durable (and waterproof). Both jackets also have removable liners and armor. Down in GA you may want something that has a removable liner in case it gets a little too hot some days.

Dennis Kirk has a pretty decent online "Outlet Store" where they sell discontinued models... I bought my Alpinetars there for $180 which was originally $290. I guess you can look around at forum sponsors, local shops and even eBay, but DK has a good selection and great prices on clearance items and their customer service has been top-notch every time I have needed something. Shipping is free too for orders over $100.

Not trying to jack the site sponsors that sell apparel so please don't take it that way... just trying to help a guy out.

You definitely need to try stuff on.

I'm shopping for a jacket myself and have found that the alpinestars stage fits me really well. It's perforated and has removable liner and armor. But yeah b/w mfr's and jacket models the fit is going to be a little different so you need to try them on in person and either buy from a local store, or from one of the sponsors, or whereever.

I have the Joe Rocket Sonic. Its perforated leather, and breathes very well. I considered textiles, but for my dollar I'd rather have the leather. It has all the appropriate protectors, and even they are perforated. Nice vip out liner. I'm not sure it would be the ideal jacket if you live somewhere it gets cold in the winter, but for me in arizona, its all about the air flow....

I recently picked up the Joe Rocket Alter Ego. Love this jacket. It has 3 layers that zip away. Functional in all riding conditions.
