Default Lightweight & NON-bulky helmet suggestion?

Well, i hate big bulky helmets such as HJC, NOlan, etc. (pretty much all DOT approved) they make my head flop around. Does anyone know which brands use a smaller profile? so long as they arent bulky and could care-less if they arent DOT or meet any other standards..

I heard vega was pretty small but haven't had any luck finding them. Most of our stores carry HJC and suomy, and their alot bigger than what I like. i was thinking about buying a youth size X-small and shaving down the liner/foam to accomodate..

Any help would be great. my email is icekooled@gmail.com

well i wouldn't recommend messing with the foam insides of a helmet - from what i understand THAT'S what protects you.

My first helmet felt really floppy till I talked to a real salesman who told me what size I should really be wearing. If it's the wrong size they feel like crap. Try smaller than what you wore before. Your idea is reatarted. You seriously get the same protection out of a protec skateboard helmet and it will be less bulky. Arai makes a pretty slim and very light helmet. They cost $$$ but it will at least serve a purpose. Whatever you do just get a real (DOT) helmet and don't modify it.

My suggestion is to use a helmet that bicyclists use... and while you're looking like a peterpuffer with your dainty slim helmet, why not ride around with spandex panties, oh I mean tights or what ever they call them. After all, lack of protection is what you seek.

All this, I'm joking of course!

A few problems with this one...
so long as they arent bulky and could care-less if they arent DOT or meet any other standards..
There is a reason for the DOT endorsement.ITS CRASH TESTED!!!! Also safe and what you should be wearing if you choose to wear a helmet
i was thinking about buying a youth size X-small and shaving
down the liner/foam to accomodate..
This wont help fittment either and will most likely hinder the helmets ability to keep you out of a coma.

I would suggest ...only a suggestion...tryin a few dealerships just for a size and go from there.I have 2 KBC helemts and they are both lightweight and a great fit.DO some research.I mean afterall if you dont care about your head....who is going to.

Umm.....ok....like other's said, if your head flip flops around, its the wrong size. Unless you have a REALLY oddly shaped head, more like octagonal and not round at all. I'm sure that there's something out there for you, you just haven't looked hard enough. Why would you want something that's not DOT approved???????? Thats like saying i'm going to put my money in the bank that doesn't have FDIC (i think thats what it is)

Im pretty sure every single motorcycle helmet it supposed to be DOT approved, If you dont have that then you are pretty much getting a bicycle helmet that looks big.

Whats the use of paying the money for a helmet if you dont care about protecting your head cause thats pretty much what your sayin.

Actually I would be fine wearing a huge protective suit made of plate armor if thats all I had to use while I was riding, givin the slide down the road would take forever to stop but it would be one hell of a fun ride.

What's left to be said? Not much I guess. I wouldn't recommend a non-approved helmet to anyone. Well unless they're one of those guys in Wisconsin who doesn't wear a helmet at all! Something is better than nothing.
As far as the fit goes - yea you may want to try a couple different models/manufacturers. My (large) HJC fits a lot looser than my (large) Icon Mainframe. The HJC was a freebie from the dealership and I used that for the first couple years. When I upgraded to the Icon it was a lot more snug and I thought "Damn, I should have went to a larger helmet." But the pads have since compressed a bit and the fit is perfect. Now when I put the HJC on I can't stand how much room is in there.
I've also just ordered a chrome jockey helmet that is DOT approved. Not sure how much I'll like the open face feel - figure I'll use it for riding around town every now and then. And of course to make all those HD guys look at me like "Why the hell is he wearing a helmet like that?" So if you want some headgear that's slimmer and lighter, look at open face helmets.

DOT approval is voluntary. DOT doesn't actually test helmets; manufacturers merely claim that their helmets conform to the DOT specifications. Plenty of helmets out there have phony DOT stickers on them, especially the kind you see Harley riders wearing.

My suggestion is to get a helmet with Snell certification. The Snell Foundation actually tests helmets, unlike the DOT.
