Leathers and such
Im not paranoid riding, I just dont care for pain so I gear up and watch my ***. It is still the only way to get to and from work. It's like every morning is a Saturday, right up until I look at my stack of paper work. And on the way home, it's just usually relaxing, if traffic is too thick, it's the best time to just head out and find a new bat route. It's not that bothersome for me to be around cars, just simply watch yourself. It's kind of fun bein able to read numbskulls in cars. You can look ahead and see something unfolding so you take what ever action you need to do to avoid it and watch all the cars behind you scramble because they arent paying attnetion to ****.
Well lane spliting is another reason i wanna get a bike traffic here is horrible and yea i hear you about cell phones and women drivers hell my sister cut off a biker once but he was doing like 50 in a turning lane and all you heard was him redlining the **** out of it to slow down note to self dont get sister mad when on motorcycle
oh and not to be racist or anything but no body in pueto rico can drive! they are all idiots even the cops

man i love all these smilies
Mesh is OK if you get the right stuff. My current hot weather kit:
Cortech HRX Jacket and Pants:

It's more durable and has a higher level of armor than most of the leather gear I see on the street. The arms and thighs are leather, and equipped with CE hard armor.
I went down in grass at about 40 and slid for a bit. No damage to me and a slight scuff to the jacket. Not noticable.
For Causal riding when it's not stupid hot, I wear my Teknic Chicane jacket.
When I am hitting it hard, I have a Teknic Speedstar suit.
Sidi Vertebra Race when I am not going to work. If I am going to work I wear a set of Icon Superduty 2. They look great with Khaki's.
for gloves 90% of the time I wear my Teknic Violators. Full gauntlet roo-skin. They feel great. For stupid hot commuting I have a set of Olympia Gel gloves.
I wear a Shoei X-Eleven Bostrom rep ALWAYS.
Don't lump all mesh together. Look at it individually. I looked long and hard before I bought my HRX jacket and Pants. I didn't like mesh either, but after cooking in my suit on a 6 hour ride I figured I had to do something. The HRX are the only mesh pants I have found with knee sliders and hard armor. They rock.
One last note on gear. Who gives a rats *** what others think about how you look. You are the one that has to put up with steel wool scrubbing your open wounds if you screw up.
For Newbies looking at gear here is the order of importance:
[ul][*]Helmet. Get the best you can afford and try them all on before you choose.[*]Gloves. Kangaroo is the best. You ride a sportbike you need to FEEL what is going on. I hate my gel gloves because I feel "disconnected". GLOVES BEFORE JACKET. If you go down at parking lot speed you are going to try to catch yourself. That is going to rash the hell out of your plams. You use your hands constantly. PROTECT THEM.[*]Jacket. If it's your one and only, get perforated leather with a liner. Leather protects better than anything else. Perforated leather will keep you comfy in 80* temps. It should fit snug. This is not like your winter jacket. If it can move around, it's too loose.[*]Boots. Your ankles are needed for walking. Guess what is at bumper level? You guessed it. Lots of little bones. No, Hiking boots are NOT OK. They will not protect your ankles and feet, and feel like crap on the bike. Sidi, Oxtar, or Alpinestars. Sidi are the best. YES THEY ARE WORTH IT!!![*]Pants. This will complete you head to toe. Hard armor always. Knee sliders if you are going to the track. Perforated are cooler, but non-perf are stronger. Yes, they need to be tight.
[/ul]
After you get this core gear, you can then expand into other more specialized stuff. I have 3 jackets, 1 pair of pants, 2 pairs of boots, 2 pairs of gloves, and 2 helmets. I am covered for every climate I could want to ride in.
I am kind of a gear fanatic. I would rather buy protective gear than go-fast parts. It's hard to go fast when you are in physical therapy.
I always enjoy riding more than driving, but I like getting there alive. If someone does something stupid at least I get to stay in one piece.

I't truely a joy to tailor your gear, Liners, jackets perf/ solid, leather pants/ perf. leathers/ perf. wet weather, hot, cold, freeeezing, helmets, visors, boots, gloves, armour, baraklava's, to the ride.
