Default Arai Shell Sizes? M and L the Same?

Question, I was just told by my local Arai dealer that a Medium and Large helmet share the same size shell and you just adjust the pading. Is that true? If it helps I was looking at the Quantum 2.

I own an Arai, size medium, and can't say for certain if this is true or not. But if you're trying to decide on the size your best bet is to try it on and see what's comfortable. The snugger the better, without cutting off circulation of course. Also, I'm not sure the Quantum's can change the inner paddings, only the higher end race replicas, so that wouldn't be an option for you anyways.

I was told the same thing by an arai dealer. I believe they have 3 shell sizes though. One for small and xtra small, one for med and large and one for xl and XLL. I wear a medium in arai. I tried on a large but it was to roomy feeling. Keep in mind that the helmet will get a little bigger when it breaks in. maybe about 10 percent bigger.

i was told the same. In fact i am ordering a quantim 2 tomorrow. I got a large and the sales man said that you can mix and match the liners to get a good fit. Like large liner and medium cheek pads. I went with the large because it seemed to feel plenty tight but not give me the chipmonk face. It's hard to be taken seriously when you look like a little fuzzy critter.

Chipmonk face is good (when it isn't painful). That means you have a snug fit. The cheek pads will break-in over time, providing a better fit than a helmet that fits good when it is new.

like what lifties says, the pads will break in over time. I have a RX-7 and if your helmet has a removable pads, then you can mix and match for a better fit. I have large cheek pads in my with a medium inner head pads.

Good to know. I was at the shop trying on Arai's yesterday and the RX-7 Corsair Wraith Sz L fit my head a lot better than the Nicky Hayden Laguna Replica. I wonder if it was with regards to the padding? O well. I decided on the Wraith and will be ordering that soon.
