Not a planned buy, but it was 500 euro so I could not pass. not sure what to do with it . do i throw the ugly plastics back on (badly scratched) or make a fighter/scrambler type thing ?
Any input on the subject appreciated.
sorry for the poor photos - first pic was taken when i got it home. rest is from the seller - will take better shots once i get to work on it.
the reason for the soot on the tank is a small fire in one of the carbs. it scored the plastics and rubbers sligthly. so i need new boots for the carb and replace some insulation on the electrics as its a bit crisp.
hooked the bike to 12v yesterday and it cranked fine.
Searching the net for where to buy parts. im situated in norway so all US webshops are more or less out of the question as shipping is insane from the US to here.
will update as i go along Fairing thrown on got all the plastics - just not all in one photo
A small fire in one of the carbs? I'm guessing someone got a little happy with the ol' starting fluid eh?
In general, gaskets, seals, and bearings are commonly available. OEM stock is drying up though (at least here in NA). Looking at the state of her, I'd focus on getting it running, then flush fluids and give it a good cleaning before deciding on a budget for the project. Fix the fire damaged wires properly or they could come back to haunt you
After that it'll be tires, chain, and sprockets. Probably worth rebuilding those brake calipers/masters and putting new pads on it. Rotors look iffy too. Probably a few other happy surprises along the way
Any of the larger plastic pieces will be tougher to replace. They are also worth decent money (even in terrible shape) so if you decide to chop it you can probably make up a portion of the budget by selling the fairings. Going for a clean streetfighter can be tricky as there's a lot of wiring and hoses stuffed under the cowl, but others on the forum have done it with nice results. Personally I'm a fan of the plastics, and scratches are easily repaired but body and paint gets pretty expensive. If it were me I'd run with just the cowl until I got the mechanical sorted out
This is a perfect ratbike. The soot on the tank is killer, and with a couple safety items addressed and a good tune you'd be the king of the streets in your hometown. Everybody loves a rat - like it sounds crazy but people have a magnetic attraction to them. It's almost primal
