Hello,

I recently just got a CBR125 because it's cheap in insurance and this is the first time I'll be riding a motorcycle.

2 days ago, my friend told me to start the bike once or twice a week so it doesn't go bad.

I'm not sure what happened, but earlier this morning when I tried to start the motorcycle it won't start.

The N lights up, the lights light up but very dim, and there's no honk. Is there anything I need to check?

Also, if anyone is from Vancouver, British Columbia is there any place I can go for a maintenance?

I've been told the chain needs to be tightened and the high beam needs to be replaced as it doesn't work.

Take the battery out and go to your local parts store to be tested. Sounds like the
battery is just old and worn-out. That's the first (cheapest) way to start looking for
the issue.

With the teeny-weeny size and vibration a bike generates, 3 years is about the
longest you can expect out of a battery on a motorcycle.

Could also be worn alternator brushes. You could check by bump starting the motorcycle and measuring the voltage at battery terminals. If around 13.5V-14.5V the alternator is ok.

 

Once you have your new battery (if that's what happens)... make sure you run it for 15 minutes even on idle just to keep it topped up. However... the best solution (as some bikes don't top up battery when idling) Oxford do a solar one... basically you can just connect the connetcors from the battery... and when it's idle in the day just have the solar panel topping up the charge keeping it in tip top condition. Sure there are cheaper ways as well.
