Default Whats keeping me busy... Rebuilding Lucy

hey guys, i havent really been infront of a computer because i kind of took on a huge project with my friend. He got into a really bad accident on his yamaha R1 but refuses to admit defeat with her. he said the bike saved his life so its his duty to rebuild her. The bike name is Lucy and we have been working real hard the past few days to rebuild her. Frame and front end is toast but motor is MINT no damage except a hole in the stator cover that went into the block a bit so we are completely rebuilding the motor just in case because you never know

With all the parts that we just ordered, bike should be up and running by the end of the month hopefully if we dont run into any issues

How it started

Geeze, your friend is lucky to be alive. The amount of force it takes to rip a frame apart like that is enormous.

Damn, that surely was one bad wreck! Is your friend ok?

It seems that the engine and maybe the swingarm is really the only thing salvageable...

Keep up the updates bro

I wasnt there because i was supposed to meet up with him but he was coming down the local mountain where we usually ride and it was day after a rain storm so thre was sand patches all over the place... he caught a patch on a turn while he was leaning. it wasnt the patch that took him down because he caught rubber again but by the time he caught he was leaning to far and went straight into a guard rail at 75mph...

he was hurt bad. 26 broken bones, fracture spien, broken collar bone, bruised tail bone, 8 out of 10 fingers broken and deflated lung. This all happened late last year. its funny tho because he recovered in under 2-3 months and was back out on a bike already, just wasnt his. But we went over the damage out of all the parts he has and he can get her running as naked street bike with a new frame, and forks and small stuff here and there. can all be fixed for under 3 grand. he knows he can just buy a new bike but he is determined to fix this one

Wow, those are major injuries to be recovered from in a short time. Glad he's ok. You guys a doing a great thing bringing back the bike.

I understand his desire to rebuild his bike. I had a car like that. It got smashed a second time & that was it. The local salvage yard I sold it to, said it parted out quickly. I went back to the yard a yr or so later for some parts & saw the carcass sitting in the dirt rotting away. At least I know some other guys got good use of the parts it had to give.

Hope the rebuild goes well. Good luck.
