It Seems the 2007 YZF-R1 Sucks!
I've always loved the way Yamahas look, and the R1 is the dream bike that I would like to get after I get tens of thousands of miles on my CBR under my belt. Well I went skulking around www.r1-forum.com and those guys do nothing but complain about their bike! No low-end power, strange ticking noises that are 'normal', the infamous 2nd-gear 5500rpm fizzle that dealers won't fix and Yamaha pretends doesn't exist, etc. Numerous other quality problems with everything from clutch bolts to valve issues. More than one R1-owning poster recommended to other disgruntled R1 owners that Suzuki builds quality bikes, and Hondas are bulletproof. The only complaint that anyone ever had about a Honda was that warranty work was hard to get because the bikes never break, so when they do, Honda calls it rider error and occasionally doesn't pay the repairs. (I myself got an extended warranty, felling like I got suckered before leaving the dealership with my bike, because I new I would never need it.)
Anyway, I am sad because none of the other literbikes look as pretty as the R1, but at this point I am never going to buy a Yamaha bike. The last thing I want to have happen is for my nike to explode from some quality issue while I am going 170 down a straightaway.

Know a guy that traded his 919 for an aniversary edition R1 and he hates it! Says it's gutless at low RPM's and wishes he had kept the Honda.

I hear stuff like that as well. The Yami's, from what I hear, have a bad power band that is more suited for the track where revs are high.
