My brother in law wants to buy a bike and doesn't know wat to get he's a 1st time rider and I told him get a 600 but I said get a cbr of course LOL but its his choice but I've only been riding for one season so he thinks I don't know as much as a more accomplished rider or even he wants more people to hea the advice from so I told him I would put it up on the forum I ride a cbr600rr and I told him it did me just fine anyone else got any input please and thank you!!!

 

Its generally not a good idea for a first time rider to start on a 600 sport bike. A 250 would be a much more wise choice. A new rider should also take the MSF Course or equivalent to learn basic riding technique & safety. Then take a mature approach to practicing those techniques & riding safely at your own pace. Once there's some experience under the belt, then a safe move up to a 600 would be more appropriate.

While starting on 600 can be done, the learning curve is much higher & adjustments more difficult. Reactions have to happen much quicker. W/ learning how to ride, having to make decisions at a much more increased rate on a 600 simply ins't the safest senario for a new rider.

Nevertheless, IF he does indeed start on a 600, best advice I can give in addition to the rider's course mentioned above, is for him to *ride his own ride* - i.e. to ride well within his comfort level til he becomes more experienced...& hope for the best.

 

Yuppers to Gotcbr, 600 is do-able with a mature first rider. However, not the best
learner. The 250-400 class is best and then trade up to a larger engine.

One thing I have noted with the 600F3 is the beastie is top heavy and difficult
to manuver at parking lot speeds. That can be lead to annoying/embarressing
episodes.

there are stages of first time rider. One that does not even know how riding a bicycle, and other that does.....its sort of like first time learner of swimming, but rather first time learner of how to ride a bicycle/ with a motor... of course motorcycle have deadly consequences. It is best if he takes the MSF course & the school provide him with a learner motorcycle, rather than buying a 250+ upright, unless he have the extra money to play.......suggestion is that he better hop on a small, like a pocket bike 50cc with 2/3 gears and ride it around, practice first before actually getting anything bigger...but 600 CC has been done as a learner but it takes baby step...

 

600cc is perfect for a mature rider .... a 250 will bore u in the first 5 min.

 

Hey, I am in search of my first bike as well. I am definitely considering a cbr600rr for my first bike. I took the safety course with Riders Edge, that is sponsored by Harley Davidson. They taught me on a 250cc Buell Blast and I must admit that I was very nervous about the "power" of the bike at first but I took on quickly of the bikes power. Long story short, I believe that I would get very bored quickly with the power of a 250cc bike. Not that I am trying to "gun" it every chance I get, but I believe that a 600cc would do me perfect for learning with the respect of the bikes power over a couple of seasons. FYI, I am 5'10, 210lbs and 32 years old with a wife and two kids...... Can anyone help me choosing the "best" cbr600rr...........? I am thinking it's the 2008 model.....?

 

if you take the bike serious then a 600 will be a good starter...i taught myself to ride a 600f4i ....like the saying goes respect the bike and the bike will respect you

Look for an older 600 and start there. You can get 1 for around 800 to 1000 bucks.. that way your not lookin at loosin too much money if somethin was to happen on his first ride.
