I know it's got 4 wheels but I'm excited about it, I know some folk here will appreciate it. This will be my second yota p/u and second 22re rebuild.

I plan to rebuild the engine w/ a new RV head, hot cam, and all the goodies I did to my '94. Should make a good Honda hauler

i think hands down best 4 cylinder motor for trucks Toyota ever made...
ive seen those motors pass half million miles with out even blinking an eye lash..

How about the 3.4 litre BJ73 motor? I have one in my '85 Mid wheel base landcruiser. Low stressed, huge torque. I love it.

Nice find Drewski. I've tried to limit my car building activities and have actually sold a few cars over the last year.

Thanks all! Got a bit done today as far as disassembly. Pulled the upper and lower intake, exhaust manifold and valvetrain.

Work got cut a little short today though, a friend came by with his Shadow 750 and needed a little carb work done then my wife and I went out dirt biking. I'll try to post pics tomorrow, the cam certainly has some wear! I knew that from the beginning though, RV cam has been the unofficial plan since I bought it.

I did get one photo though, plus one for standing!! She's getting the hang of it

Popped the head off today!



Next I get to order the new head, cam, timing chain, water pump, oil pump, the list goes on... but it's fun! I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't enjoy it. Work got cut short today as I had 30+ gallons of India Brown Ale to brew, it's fermenting away happily down in one of the conicals in my basement now

Now that I got all the progress pics out of the way, my wife took some awesome pics with her camera! She's quite a bit better at it than I am.



This is just the greatest looking truck ever. Can't wait to finish this initial build up.





Gotta order parts this coming week

 

Wow. It's been COLD. Needless to say I have been a pansy when it comes to wrenching in the cold... in my defense it's been dark every day when I get home and my weekends are busy. Also since this is an extra truck I'm in no hurry and I would rather enjoy this build then stress about it.

Anyway today was warm and sunny. All I had to deal with was my backyard turning to a mudpit so I decided to accomplish something.

Pulled the front crossmember, dropped the diff and replaced my oil pan gasket.



It was all a headache as usual but I'm glad I did it. The remnants of an old blown set of timing chain guides were still in the pan from who knows how long ago. Who knows, maybe some of the plastic did its usual deal of clogging the oil pickup at some point and that's why the old top end got oil starved. At any rate it's all good now, I have a new gasket on there and things are getting considerably cleaner as I go along.

I'll also throw out a plug for this stuff:



I saw it mentioned on a recent episode of Roadkill and thought I'd give it a shot. Seems to do the trick, I went for the heavy duty stuff and it removed a lot of baked on grease and dirt. A lot of my suspension and frame parts should be ready for some paint before too long thanks to this

How on earth are you able to reach those tools on the wall!? Or is there space behind the table?

Interesting looking project, I`m unfamiliar with that particular toyota model cause we only have the Hilux here of the pickups, and that looks somewhat different.
