I love my job. I can't wait to work full time for the fire dept, but it'll have to wait. I'll have to finish school first.

I fell chin first into my current job. I started as a temp washing heavy equipment ten years ago, and now I am a salesman for this company. I think I hate it, but sometimes I love it. What I want to do is make music for a living, but the benefits, and retirement program are not so good. I had children very young, and that became my focus. I wouldn't trade it, but I wonder how my life would be if I had a chance to live for myself. I would not have met the wonderful people in my life if things didn't work out like they did. I would have never met my wife...that would have been my loss. I would probably not evenbe here, as my life would be so different. I guess I don't love what I do, but I love the results...hard call.

I'm NOT doing something I even remotely "like"........in fact........I DESPISE my job and everything about it. I'm naturally an artist (more to the point, a graphic artist) I do everything from sketches to corporate branding, to marketing campaigns over a wide array of multimedia........but what am I doing? Working at freaking Comcast as customer service listening to everyone b***h about their bills and how they can't make payments. I took the job just to pay the bills until I finally get my professional portfolio done, posted and then the job hunt is on for an "actual" career.

So really, I guess the only thing that's holding me back is.....well......myself. I just need to bust *** and get that portfolio done. No one else to blame but myself for still being a cable guy.

I'm with you Foxy I ****ing hate my job with a passion...as a matter of fact I think I LOVE hating my job. I am a retail store manager for a certain cell phone carrier...they do everything they possibly can to make this job look good from the outside because it honestly does. Good pay, good benefits, free phones/cell phone bill for my whole family, expense accounts, I get to travel...blahblahblah sounds awesome huh? NOT AWESOME.

The thing that infuriates me the most about it is there is 0% allowance for independence. If you don't follow the rule that's written in the book somewhere, you get pressure from above. When they want to increase sales, they increase your operational tasks. When they need you to motivate your reps, they write you up. NOTHING makes sense because the CEO is far from the bottom the disconnect happens months before we even catch wind of it and by that time it's in place in the handbook.

There is a policy in place that says after November 1st and up til January 10th managers have to work the day before and after Thanksgiving and Christmas and we have to work every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday...don't forget we're salaried so it's not like we're getting paid more. Sounds like a company really focused on it's employees doesn't it? And don't try using reason to get out of it...my boss is literally a robot built with the handbook for his brain and the company motto for his soul. He will not make any exceptions for anyone, he will stop by your store 15 minutes before you get off for a 2 hour meeting and he will shoot you down and write you up the second you have a good idea on how to deal with something.

The thing about retail is they can afford to pay you more than the work you actually do, but it motivates people to do just enough to keep their job.

My girlfriend is a criminal defender and every day she comes home in a good mood...I'd say her personality is contagious enough for me to stay motivated to be positive every day. I want to get my MBA (more for personal achievement than anything) but I don't want to work in the corporate world any more after this job.

I loved my job in the military, telephone maintenance. When the Communications commander for my MAJCOM actually came to my shop, he basically gave me my pink slip. So I opted to get out. Looking back on it, maybe I should have stayed in but then I would have not met my g/f. I have been unemployed for about a week now and have a telephone interview to be the phone tech for this company here in Indy. The only phone tech in Indy. It is a big area to cover but I am game. I get a company vehicle, health insurance and all that good jazz.

I would love to have a federal job and have applied for several. It is a matter of time before I get picked up for some federal job.

not much is appealing to me, I'm a manufacturing major and will graduate in dec. but I've done some jobs like build CNC machines and babysit fanuc/wittman robots for an 8 hour shift and to be honest all I want is a decent salary/insurance/vacation and no more than 40 hours a week so I can enjoy what life is all about...Not working and being with my family. Working my *** off at some job that demands 50+ weird hours a week is not what I want. I love working on my bike and my car but I have decided that as soon as I have to work on other people's **** I hate it. I used to drive 100 miles every weekend to work on my camaro back when I was a freshman...but since I've had to do odd-jobs for everyone's car woes simply because I know how it's definitely killed that drive somewhat. That's why I never got into auto tech work. Doing something like what the guys at OCC do would be pretty cool but I wouldn't work very well with other people. I'm one of those "it's gotta be my way or no way" types lol.
To me, if I have to do something, ie a job, it loses a lot of the appeal so I don't think it's really possible for me to find something I love but more like something I hate less than other things. Lesser of evils I suppose.

I know that most people don't exactly love their job for the most part. It's just kinda sad. There's something romantic about just dropping everything and going after your passion at the cost of everything. If you don't have a passion, well that's another problem.

I love my job. I enjoy depriving criminals of their freedom, watching them crawl the walls with boredom. It does my heart and soul wonders to keep these people locked up. At the end of the day I know my job makes a difference...Society benefits from keeping some in the penalty box for a while.
I don't make a good victim, and neither do the other correctional officers I work with. When the people in our care act out it is our job to keep them safe. Sometimes that means physical altercations...and that suites me just fine. My martial arts training plus the departmental training have found a home.
I look forward to going to work. I find it less stressful than working in my trade...The client isn't always right!
My youngest child wrote,"the most important thing about my dad is he keeps the world safe." How can you beat that?

My brother did an internship in juvenile corrections. He liked it too, though he found it more like babysitting than anything else. Then again, he was watching kids who often never grew up.
