This is where I bought mine from... cheapest I could find at the time.
"Massive increase in noise"? You're kidding right?

It's not going to gain you enough extra power to warrant the massive increase in noise.
The loudest pipe I've heard so far is my Two Brothers slip-on. I wear in-ear canal headphones while I ride and I can still hear it. The pipe sounds like a muscle car and on the downshift when I hit around 8000 RPM it sounds like a fighter jet decellerating, truly orgasmic.
I got a Yosh RS-1 on e-bay quite a while ago. I was in good shape but didnt have any glass packing. This pipe was supposed to have the "racing baffle". Well I drilled out the rivets (engine side of pipe) to take a look and it seemed to have a typical inner pipe with preforations that also had a inner taper from the front of pipe to about halfway. But really, this pipe was straight thru. I got some packing from Cycle Gear and wrapped it fairly full. The sound was medium loud and deeper than the stock can....not overly loud. It did have authority when gassed hard.
I just recently, took this pipe apart (after about 1 1/2 years) to experiment. The packing was in there better than ever (firmed up to a nice cylinder shape) and not burnt out like I hear from others. What I
did was add metal tape (lookes like duct tape but metal (see ducting area at Lowes/ Home Depot), and wrapped half of the inner pipe (front side). This made it a touch louder with a burble sound at idle. Its evan louder when gassed. I havent found the need for earplugs though. (KBC Racer 1 Helmet).
