Wussy in the right hand corners
ORIGINAL: justasquid
I think everyone has a preffered side to corner. Mine is *** backwards.. I like right handed corners better. I feel natural when cornering to the right, I feel awkward when cornering to the left.. For some reason, it took me a lot longer to touch my knee down on left handed corners than it did on rights. All of my friends that I ride with prefer left handed ones.
But, I'm left handed too....Maybe soccer is onto something.

Wow I am a weirdo I guess. I have, since I can remember, felt far more comfortable in the right hand corners than the left ones (p.s. I am right hand dominant). Most of the guys I rode with or still ride with are fairly split. I don't know what it is I just feel like I can really crank hard into a righty but I feel like a child throwing a ball for the first time when going into the lefties. hmmm...we should call mythbusters or at least someone at the Discovery channel. lol

Most rights you start out near the right (we ride on the right side of the road) so you're going in near the curb and swinging out leaves you vulnerable to opposite traffic. Turning left you can see through the turn better and go with a deeper line. Practice going towards the left of your lane before the right turn and it should help some. As always, watch out for the slick crap that loves the apex of street curves[:@]

You are not weird or chicken mate

It is totally because of the side of the road/direction in which you travel.. and for all the reasons Gregg gives above..
Our minds get so used to seeing things from that particular view that we automatically seem to make some adjustment when cornering left and right..
(depending on which country you live in)

All sorts of things come into it..
running out of road?
the fear of hitting an on coming car? and much more ...
If we only traveled on wide multi lane roads with one way traffic, we would not suffer this quite as much...but because so much of our riding is on 2 way roads we do automatically seem to see things differently in our heads and take appropriate precautionary action..
This issue is also not as big a problem on the track, because of all of the above...
As mentioned ... practice or physically thinking of this problem while riding will help you...
I also feel more comfortable taking left turns than i do right turns. I think it is mostly in my head though because of the oncoming traffic and when you go into a right hand turn you start on the left and go to the right edge of the road which is usually where there is gravel if someone before you happen to splash some up. Ive been practicing on roads that i know well and i make sure they are clean and then just ride it over and over and over. Now im starting to get more comfortable but i still like the lefties better.
and for the record im right handed.

I am equally skilled in both sides of my turns. No chicken strips on either side.

me I solved the problem... I only ride in straight lines on freeways with one way traffic
