Wrecked bike question
Went and looked at a bike with my brother today, it is a 04 GSXR-600 with 7800 miles that had been laid over doing around 50. It broke the sub-frame and a small piece off the fairing stay and cracked the rear fairing. The frame slider and bar end on the left side is toast but the fairing took very little damage.
Would need -- sub-frame, front stay, levers, shift lever, brake reservoir for front, bar ends, mirrors and grips. It has brand new tires (less than 300 miles) a yoshi exhaust and everything else is pretty much stock.
It starts up and runs and idles just fine, couldn't ride it b/c of the sub-frame being broken and no seat. Shifted through the gears fine and they seemed to be good. Can get it for $1500 and it looks like around $600 in parts to be back to normal. Anyone think this would be a good deal?

Yea all paperwork will be legit, title getting notarized tomorrow and he will have it registered sometime next week.
So far we found some used sub-frames for around $350, front stay for $50 and all the other little things for another $150 all together. He's been riding my bike this past week practicing in the parking lot down the road and it doing very well at slow maneuvers, throttle control, braking etc
The GSXR-600 is way more bike than he needs but he is dead set on getting it and fixing it to ride. Making sure to have him take his time learning to ride.

Just for giggles I'd lossen the front fork tube holders and then retighten them they may have gotten tweaked in the crash as long as there not bent loosening the bracket will let them straighten out then retighten, you can tell if you hold the handlebars straight and look down thru to the tire and see if its pointing straight too, simple way to check
Yea they weren't leaking or anything and looked fairly straight. Will be going on it here in about an hour when I get it back to my house. Looks like the brunt of the damage was taken by the rear fairing, sub-frame and the frame slider.
Most of the coolant leaked out while the bike was on its side, so I'm going to fill the coolant and put it on my rear stand and try and run it through the gears while running to make sure it will shift correctly. Can't put the seat on to ride it because the sub-frame is broken in half and wont have a new one til late next week.
Going to try and check everything out today that could be a problem though.
EDIT:
Got it to the house and the forks look good, no main frame damage or swing arm damage. But HOLY MOTHER OF GOD this bike is peppy, I'm used to my throttle being pretty responsive but this bike is like a Formula 1 car when revving it. Going to look at getting a less responsive throttle sleeve for it. All in all looks like a good deal even though its a turd right now. $550-600 in parts and it will be a nice bike again aside from the scuffed u fairings which aren't even that bad to be honest.

So far have found rust in the tank and got an Fi light but I think its from the tip over sensor, don't know what it looks like on this bike but had the harness on the ground and it came on. Put the harness up by the bars and it doesn't come on. Figure I will use vinegar to get the heavy rust off and soak it in Evapo-Rust, each side 2 hour probably. Then flush it with gas a few times and use some rust inhibitor before putting it back on.
Broke one of the frame slider bolts off, threads were pretty bad rusted and wd-40 didn't help....will be drilling it out next weekend

if it's a clean title, it would probably be a good deal if you want to ride it and it needs nothing else. if it's been salvaged by the insurance company, than it's way too much. if you want to flip it, it's way too much.
it'd be a fun little project though for sure.
im a little surprised by how expensive the subframes are, though - knowing your common gixxer owner, they might be a hot in demand commodity...
northern auto parts makes a cheap and really good tank liner kit for the tank - i had to use it my GS500 tank. it worked like a charm. i think it was only about $30 or so. it cleans it and lines it.
but if it were me, i'd sell the good fairings, make my own subframe - bobber it, buy a headlight and fighter that bish
