Nice job on standing your ground. My wife didn't want to wear her A* leather pants when we were going out for a ride (she has her own bike), I laughed and said "yea.... no, your wearing them". It's that simple in cases of bodily injuring prevention, don't budge. Just tell her that is the requirements for riding a bike.

You said you didn't want her to look like a squid or have people call you a squid for letting her ride like that. We all know the reason you had for her not riding that way, because you said you rode all day in gear.

I love my wife too and would never let her ride on the back of my bike without gear.
