Thats nice. Man, if your into bowfishing, you know how big those gar get down south. 6ft 200+ pounds, but we don't get carp like you guys, and definately not in those numbers. Do you eat them? I know what your thinking....eeeeeew, trash fish, but really, used to run commercial lines for channel and blue cats in N Texas and buddies had a fish camp, and when they got a big carp like that, they gutted it out, head on, and scrubbed the body really well, then slow smoked it over mesquite till the scales stood up and it was ready. Just rake off the meat from the bones onto your plate. Good as hell. My mom is from S Louisianna, and they would get gar, bust through the scales with a small hatchet, and fillet off the meat, mix it in with a choice of herbs, fresh chives and pressed garlic, a little mayo and mustard, lots of cornmeal and mash it up like potatoes and make these baseball sized ***** out of it, then deep fry it in a dutch pot over a fire until they would float, and then, transfer them to a wire basket hanging off the side of the pot, which was above a mesquite stack, smokin away from the grease dripping on it, smoke em up a bit. Talk about damn good. I won't tell you other recipes for non-traditional tablefare.....

Most of them we put in the fields to be disked into the soil for fertilizer; but the bigger ones we do smoke... thats about the only way you can eat them and have them taste good.
