Default Whats with the liter bikes?

Seriously... I rarely ride with someone with an R-1 or 1000RR or Gixxer that can actually handle it. I know, I know...bigger is better, they sound bitchin, and they may have bragging rights... guess thats why I took my 600RR stickers off my tail. Pulled into a station for gas and the usual bothersome situation happened that I always dread... three of the attendants come over, oohh and aaaahh'in and sayin they cant wait to get a bike when they turn 18...and its got to be a 1000. "dude, how fast does this go?" Forgive me guys, I am getting old I guess. You should see the change in their faces when I drop the bomb..."its only a 600RR brutha.."

It's alway been the same, always will be, I always reply "Any Dick head can go fast in a straight line".
Some people think that the extra ponies are worth it, I've always prefered mid capacity bikes (have had a litre bike though, but that was a beemer & don't count) Horses for courses though.

A year before I got my bike my buddy bought a 2005 1000RR, he said, you gotta be riding 5 years before you get a bike like this. Once in a while I ride it now and I can say, that I'd never get good on that thing because there is nowhere to explore it envelope unless you are on a track. 150 HP is really just overkill in such a small and light package plus they do 100mph in first gear! That I don't need either, what do I do with the other 5. Even my 600 I feel is never really ran hard. Since I don't do track days, I think I'll never be a great rider, all I ever will be is a safe street rider that knows how to emergency brake really well.

With that said, I can see myself on a 600 class bike for a long time, maybe the F4i, maybe the Duc 695, but I don't ever plan on needing more than 100HP (in a light sportbike)or wanting anything that is more 'race ready' than the F4i.

Yes bigger is better to a point. Besides bargging rights there is no point to a bike that fast on the street. Sometimes I wish my F4 had more punch, but over all it's faster then I need it to be onthe street. I'm happy with a 600 sport bike, but later down the road i might go bigger if the price is right.

Someday I might get a 1000 to see what it's all about, but I agree that even a 600 is too much to really use on the street. My ninja 500 was pretty fun to learn on, because I could thrash on the throttle, and still be within (or close to) the speed limits. Iget on the 600 and I'm already illegalshifting out of1st gear. And of course, I've got a couple buddies saying "why did you get that 600, you'll be bored of it in 6 months. Get a real bike". At the same time I've got a friend that can outride them all on his SV650. Ha, ha, I think I'll stay on my "little" F4i a while.

I've been riding my 87 600 for 2 years now and I'm nowhere near bored with it. They are prob bored from going straight all the time, lol.
