When I quit, I made list on a 3x5 card, that list had every reason I wanted to quit.....nasy, costs too much, be a good example for my kids, be healthy, live longer, have control ect....on the other side of the card was what I spent in a month of smoking, something of 300 or so.I had that card laminated and it was with me 24/7 .Tiesmoking to drinking, as for me they go hand in hand, and it was like 600 or so a month. So, every time I wanted a smoke or drink, I looked at the card to remind myself why I was giving that stuff up. When a few months went by, I looked at what I usually would have spent on that bad stuff, 550 or so, and treated myself to a 500 dollar toy (for me it was an upper for my AR) You gotta have a plan, and a back-up plan, it's tough. I read the big book online allot and went to a bunch of AA, really helped to know theres others who have the same desire to get controll. But, like mentioned, for me, it was live really healthy, or really bad, and living really bad for me was 2 packs a day, 12-16 tall-boys a night, 4hrs sleep so on. The only reason I'm not burnt out or super fat is cause I'm active and work out regularly. Lots of lobor too, projects around the house, helping buddies build stuff so on. The only time I am sitting down is at dinner and when posting on here, that and diet, thank god I was raised to not really have a taste for sweets or junk food. Well, thats my rant/.02, helped me a ton.
I tried to quit a LOT of different times, and failed. When I decided to quit, and not *try* to quit I was successfull. It was a battle at times but I went from 2 packs a day to zero. I used the patch for 3 days but I hated it so I stopped and just dealt with it. What a huge difference it's made in every part of my life. It's amazing.
I used to smoke a pack a day, and drink at least a tall six every night. At work, smoke breaksgot to be such a big issue, that I eventually stopped smoking during the day by default. Then one year, for Lent (I am Catholic and we give up something for 40 days as a symbolic sacrifice starting the day after Fat Tuesday), I gave up drinking. That actually curbed my urge to smoke all together. When I started drinking again after the fourty days of Lent, I tried to smoke, tried about four puffs, and haven't smoked again inat leastsix years. The other day I was at Safeway, and a lady was complaining because the Camel unfiltered cigarettes cost $5.75, about a dollar more than the other smokes. As she put away her Oregon Trail Card (our modern version of the food stamp), I thought to myself, "Bitch, maybe it is time to quit smoking, because you can't affordto smokeif you can't even afford your own groceries!"

Try cutting out sugar all together for a week. Talk about serious withdrawls. I have limited myself to maybe 1 soda a day if that and I feel a lot better. BLAH BLAH BLAH diabete sucks.[>:] I do not wish it on my emenies.
