EDIT: oh, I see, why also?? ... well I already drive very fast but I do that for free ... pay me millions of pounds and knock ten years off my age and I will drive even faster, much faster!! ;-)

Seriously though ..
I had the grades easily and was going to join the Air Force ..do 4 years then become a commercial pilot...
I had that plan for years before I left school...
Something happen as I got older though to change my mind ... it was called the Vietnam war and conscription ..which I only missed by 12 mths or so...
I decided in my youthful panic and paranoia of those days that life was short and I was out to have a good time , right here right now ...So I took the highest paid Trades job that I could find .. it was as a plumber ...
I do not think I would change much about what I do or what I did for the money stuff...
I think changing things just for the cash?? ...hmm?...well somewhere in the land of Yin and Yang thing , a trade off would have to have happened that I may not have liked??
I like working with my hands so what I do has served me quite well too...
sorry my answer is a bit neutral ... but this is what I think seriously ..

I too, wanted to become a pilot - nobody in my family was, so I had little to encourage me.
Only managed to fly a bit in small planes in later years - love it still. Had a mate who had his own Piper, gave me some free lessons........still can't fly worth shyte, tho' ![X(]
