RE: What does CBR stand for?
Dunno about the CB part, but was told that R stands for 'race', as in 'go real fast', not what color your skin is. CB was the designation for Honda's road bikes starting somewhere in the 60's, but I'm not sure what the initials mean. Cool Bike? Certainly Best? Casual Beast? Oh, that's enough. I'll stop now.

RE: What does CBR stand for?
"cb is the honda code for road bike.the very first c model was the c100 50cc.the cb range was their roadbike range.cl was road/trail,cd was commuter and so on.cbr basically means cb road r racing.developed from their roadracers on the tracks the abrieviation is road model racer.one further thing of interest is that the early models we got outside the u.s were c models such as c100,c102,c200 etc.you got ca100,ca200 ca102.the a part of the code was america or american market model.we never saw these.just a bit of useless information "

RE: What does CBR stand for?
this is what iv been told what CBR meant
Apparantly the design of the engine was based on a radical new idea. The cylinders used to be in line, front to back on other hondas but on the first CB bikes the cylinders ran in line left to right.
The bike was named after the new engine design/configuration which was mounted CROSS BEAM.
The faired bikes that followed were CROSS BEAM RACERS.
