Default weird heart rate

So after seeing that normal heartrate thread, I was wondering something (hopefully there's some people that are pretty good with health or whatever)...

My resting heart rate has always been fairly low (back in high school when I ran track and played soccer, it was about 45 bpm) it's in the low/mid 50's now... but it's also always been sort of irregular... every few beats, it will start slowing down, and after a few more beats, it'll start speeding back up. It'll have like 4 or 5 fast beats (like 1 a second or so), then it'll slow down to a beat every 2 seconds or so for 3 or 4 beats, and then it'll start speeding back up.

Is this bad? It's how my heart's been as long as I can remember... no doctor has ever said anything about it, but you don't really notice it unless you feel my pulse for a while (more than 15 seconds).

Slower rates tend to have a more pronounced rate change associated with breathing. You can sometimes actually look at an EKG strip and see the respitatory rate. It's normal.

(By the way, I was a Paramedic Instructor for 10 years, so I didn't just stay at a Holiday Inn Express to gain this info)

Ain't that the truth! Add some more caffiene and nicotine, maybe through in an IRS audit, and you can get a resting rate of 100!!

thanks, randy... I always kind of wondered about my heartrate

and for the caffeine thing... lol... you guys should see what I eat/drink every day.

Last time I cleaned out my car, there was about three empty cans of monster, three cans of rockstar, two cans of freek, and a few cans of soda. And all that was from a week, maybe two at the most. Back in high school, I drank 1-3 energy drinks a day, along with a 2-liter bottle of mt. dew I'd buy in the morning before school and drink all day... I'd have the bottle gone by the time I went to bed that night.

I'm perfectly aware I'm killing myself with drinking all this crap... but I figure, I have 100 years or less to live... I might as well enjoy them

(and I hope I never get an audit )

*edit: figured I'd throw this in there to cover my a**.... I've been trying to drink a little healthier lately... I primarily drink water, and try to only have one can of energy drink a day
