I'm by no means an expert, but I have lost about 100 lbs in the last year. I can tell you, it feels good to be in the "normal" BMI range, and not classified as "obese". My secret? It doesn't matter. I could tell you to eat peanut butter (but not too much), load up on fruits and veggies, and eat lean protein, olive oil, omega 3's,blah, blah, blah. The solution is something you need to find out for yourself. Just remember, as simple as it sounds: Calories conusmed - calories burned = weight loss. Period. Glycemic index may play a part, but i think it's marginal. Find what foods you like the most, and continue to eat them. If they're high calories, tell yourself you can eat as much as you want. Just not now. Delay your impulses. Exercise self control (believe me, I know it's not easy), because if you do, you will feel less guilty when you have a little too much. Eat when you're hungry, not just because it's there or it's lunchtime. Don't justify things in your head by saying things like: I was "good" yesterday, so i can eat lots today", etc. I really hope you get something out of this.
WOW.. congrats..

yeah winter has been my worst enemy.. ..

I just typed up a whole long thing but my phone messed up and erased it all so this is gonna be shorter. Domin8 pretty much summed it up. Make sure u eat regularly but in small portions. This will boost ur metabolism. The best way I've heard metabolism explained is metabolism is like a campfire and food is its logs. In order to build the fire (metabolism) u have to put logs on it (food). As far as the alcohol goes, u don't have to stop drinking. There is no fat in alcohol. The reason people get fat from drinking is because of the foods people generally eat while drinking, because alcohol will lower your metabolism. If u can refrain from drinking it will make it easier on u if u already have a slow metabolism tho. Check out bodybuilding.com they have a lot of helpful information. Good luck and stay dedicated. Results will come.

I had put on about 15lbs in the last year from messing up my ankle last spring and not being able to do anything for about 6 months. We just had a weight loss contest at work to see who could loose the most percentage of weight, we all put in $15 and the winner got $120. I'm too lazy to look for the right foods to eat, but i did start eating breakfast...which was just an orange for me. I ate the same for lunch as I normally did, which meant going out to a restaurant. I ate the same things for dinner as I normally did too, but this is where I cut my portions in half. I didn't eat until I was full like I normally do, I just ate enough to keep my stomach from growling at me. It was pretty hard for the first 3 or 4 weeks, but now I can cut my meal down with no problem. I've lostalmost 20lbs in 10 weeks going from 184 to 165, but unfortunately had to travel for work the last week of the contest, which killed my eating habits for those days and I was bypassed by two co-workers.

I know that different diets work for different people, but I figured I'd throw out my slightly unconventional method, cause it sure worked for me. I'm so used the cutting down evening meals now that I'm still doing it 2 weeks after the contest, and while my weight is staying about the same because I'm lifting wieghts now, the belly fat is slowly going away.

Okie, Domin8 has some good advice there...and try to eat alot more fish than chicken or beef and such...I have the same problem, just the opposite...when I got out of college I started at the gym but I have an amazingly high metabolism already so I have to drink weight gain shakes and eat huge meals after I work out..but I have gained almost 30 lbs the past 2-3 years working out...

...if you put your mind to it, you can do anything. No soda, chips, chocolate, ice cream...start eating grapes, apples and such for snacks...
