I think the people on the boards are generally a different person then your avg rider. Most people on here have common sense and a thirst for knowledge and that plays a large part in weither gear is worn or not.

Also, on this particular board, that's the culture that has developed. When someone comes to this site, he sees that most of us have a mature approach to riding, we recognize the risks, and do what we can to reduce those risks. People who don't share that approach to riding will be called out on it, and won't stick around here very long. I'm sure there are other forums for the guys who ride in flip flops and wife beaters, where their way of thinking is less likely to be challenged.

And speaking of, I think we ran one said individual off last night asking about what shades to get to wear when he didnt wear his helmet. [sm=WTFsgign.gif]

i agree with TBF and Munson...i think the people that come here and actively participate are more than your average rider...if you actively participate (i am not talking the couple times poster)...you obviously enjoy your bike and are either trying to learn more or fix your bike....either of those situations proves you at the very least care about riding....
plus i think you hang around a board like this long enough you begin to come around if you didn't start out that way....i initially hated the idea of having to wear a leather and would wear my mesh or a hoodie when i first started riding...now...i will wear that leather on a 95 degree day and sweat my *** off because it's the right thing to do....(and i did that a couple weeks ago, it sucked)....

Eh, I wore saftey glasses to run to Fleet Farmlast night when I needed a 3/8 to 1/4 adapter while replacing the clutch in my F4i. Little to no traffic around here and less than a mile away, but earlier when I went and got my torque wrench from my parents (20 miles away), I was fully geared. Did I mention I was on my lil Enduro? In my eyes, I gear up for the long hauls, and generally always use my helmet. There's just the occasional quick trip where I just grab a set of saftey glasses or shades and run. Much like the very rare chance that I don't wear my seatbelt in the car.

This site has definitly made me increase the amount of gear that i wear, not just becasuse of the people, but mostly because of the stories that i read on here often about fellow board members and riders going down even on the "easiest" turn that "they have done 1000x" and all the nasty ooey gooey pictures of rash that i have seen while on here, and for that, my skin (and many online gear retail stores) thank you cbr forum
