Default Watchin a friend go down...

had a really long ride that my dad planned out for myself and my best friend who got a bike the same day i did...bout 2 months ago or so. All in all about a 300 mile trip. Well all was going great, hit the Bass Pro Shop in myrtle beach for my dad.....then to lunch at Hooters for my friend and I >=). Even got all the Hooters girls to come out and take a picture with me, my friend josh and our bikes (sweet *** pic). Well after lunch we started to head home...being that its mid october its alil cold outside so we stop, toss on the extra warm crap my dad had stashed in his saddle bags on his bike (he rides an 03 harley ultra classic) and continued our ride home. Well about 2 miles down the road we run into a stop light...we start slowing down like any other light....and all of a sudden I hear Josh's RPMs skyrocket so i look to my side a second later and see him going head first into the ground with his bike coming down on top of him. My dad and i stopped hella fast, almost dropped my bike bc i braked so hard. Apparently when we were slowin down his throttle got stuck or something and instead of hittin the kill switch he panicd and grabbed the front brake....ouch. Had to call my mom to bring the truck so we could take whats left of his bike home.

He didnt really get hurt cept just lil rash on one of his knees bc gear is a life saver. He is going tomorrow for Xrays on his hand....he might have broken but Im sure a broken hand isnt to bad considering the possible injuries. His bike is pretty beat up. Going to have to replace all the plastics, new headlight unit, his old cluch snapped off. As Im sure he was alil depressed bc of his bike....im not sure who was worse me or him. Was a HUGE eye opener to see em go down like that....out of no where. Kind of a big reminder that it CAN happen to you....something unexpected can ALWAYS happen at negiven time on these.

One of the worst parts about the whole thing that i now notice in hinde site.....out of all the traffic that was around us...NOT 1 CAR/PERSON stopped to ask if everything was ok...just waited for us to get his bike off the road so they could continue. f***ers

Wow, that sucks. Glad to hear he's ok for the most part. It seems like most people don't even want to be bothered to see if a rider down is ok or not. Sounds like he was still on the throttle when he was breaking. Was he not paying attention ahead or just hit the brakes too hard?

He coulda just pulled the clutch and then figured out what to do at a slower pace. I.E. Kill swtich/key/both brakes. That's ok though, I hope he gets back on the saddle as soon as he can! Glad to hear he's ok and that you guys had on your gear. Smart dudes!

I wonder why the engine reved up? Was it a new or used bike?

Good to hear he's alright and had enough sense to wear gear.

At least you have pics of his bike reight before he crashed it... (the ones for hooters you didn't share).

He isnt even sure what really happened. He just says that for some reason his RPMs went up and he didnt want to hit my dad who was in front of him so he panicd and braked hard. He said it might have been that he didnt let go of the throttle enough bc he was wearing different gloves bc it was so cold....not accustomed to htem mebe *shrug* The bike is brand new. 06 R6...had it a couple months so im thinkin it had to have been him not realizing he was still on the throttle... but then again I really dont know a WHOLE LOT bout these bikes just yet. Im headed to his house now to help him strip it down and see what does/doesnt need to be replaced.

Great news on the condition of his health! Bad news on the bike. The left hand is SO important! Sometimes it is better to grab a handful of clutch than a handful of brake.

This reminds me of what they taught in the MSF course. Squeeze clutch / downshift / front brake / rear brake as one motion. All of your appendages doing their respective action at the same time. At least you guys weren't in the middle of a turn!

Sorry to hear that, and im glad your friend is okay. I layed my bike down about a week and a half ago doing about 40mph or so....lowsided it. Luckily my gear saved me too...just road rash on my hands (wish i had my gloves on) and my knee. My bike ended up getting totalled out though, so that sucked. BUt im looking forward to an 06-07 1000RR! Oh, and ya. None of the 4 cars behind/infront of me stopped to ask if i was alrite once i got my bike out of the road. Pr!cks. I know if i was in my truck and saw i guy go down id sure as hell stop and check it out, and offer to throw the bike in my truck too. take care and ride safe. gear up. saves your skin. Id be a total mess if i had no gear on, also if i had a half shell harley sty le helmet....id have no face left...side of my helmet skidded 200 feet down the road...and my chest would be nipple-less too! thankyou leather and helmet.
